I used to view one piece bathing suits as the “minivan” of all the bathing suits. You know what I mean?
I saw them as the comfortable, safe, practical choice you would reluctantly make once you grew older and became a mom. Well, ladies, I’ve come to find that’s simply not true! Nowadays, the one piece is a fashion must have. And women of all ages are slipping them on this summer. You can still look stylish and, dare I say, sexy?! So, this mama is putting the pedal to the medal on the one piece bathing suit and here are some of my favorites!
I’m a huge fan of shopping online, and that’s exactly what I did when it came time to find a suit. If you think it seems risky, think about the alternative. NO ONE likes trying on bathing suits in the store. So. Many. Mirrors. And that horrible fluorescent lighting? Fuhgeddaboudit!
Plus for me, trying on clothes means rushing through all my pieces while the kids sit in the stroller watching me and asking over and over again, “Mommy, when are we leaving?!” I’ve definitely lost my balance in a pant leg and lost my patience in a huff. Nope, no fun at all.
At least with online shopping, you can narrow down your search by style, color, and size. Browse the options in the comfort of your home, then have the suits come straight to your door. You can try them on in your own time and simply return the ones that don’t work. Amazon has a seriously amazing return policy. All of the suits I ordered included free returns. That came in handy when one of the suits showed up in the wrong size. I simply printed off the pre-paid return label and threw the suit in a box to send back. Refund and done.
So, ladies, I present you with 5 super stylish one piece bathing suits I found on Amazon- ALL UNDER $25!!
Full disclosure here, I am NOT a model, let alone a bathing suit model LOL. This is way out of my wheelhouse and my comfort zone. But I’m hoping these will give you a better point of reference for how these look off your computer screen and on a real body. Big thanks to my friend Ashley for snapping these pics as I awkwardly posed in my backyard. Next time I’ll have a mimosa on hand for good measure.
Okay, without further ado…
Suit #1: Lukitty Women’s Halter Print Monokini
PRICE: $18.35
PROS:
This one looks exactly like it did online! I really love the fun print and the colors are nice and bright. It also has a detachable strap, so you can always go strapless to avoid tan lines. But a word of caution: there’s no boning in this suit. So if you’re ample up top – you may need the support of the strap. Overall though I love the suit and think it’s great value for the cost.
CONS:
I’m not sure if this suit is made with a longer torso or if it’s because I’m vertically challenged, but the sides tended to gap a little bit on this one. If I adjust the ties and pull it up a little it seems to fix the problem, but it’s something to keep an eye on. Also, the fabric isn’t very thick on this suit (probably why it’s only $18!) so the white tends to be a little sheer once wet, but the colorful print is in all the right places, so you won’t actually show more than you intended.
Suit #2: Blooming Jelly Women’s Tropical Tribal Print
PRICE: $15.99
PROS: Umm – first of all can we just talk about the price? $15.99… seriously? I thought this had to be a joke. But honestly, this suit is gorgeous! The colors are so rich, I love the pattern, and it’s actually pretty decent quality! The back is so pretty too with the low cut and fun criss-cross. It’s definitely got a sporty feel to it, and there’s lots of coverage, so it would be good for a day running around the beach with little ones. You probably wouldn’t choose this one for lounging and trying to get some sun. I consider it more of an active suit.
CONS: It’s kind of hard to get on and off. It took me a few tries to finagle and shimmy my way out of it since you have to slip the straps over your head and then weave your arms into the criss-cross parts. So if you have to go to the bathroom while wearing it… good luck! Also, it felt just a little bit narrow on top, like if it were just a few inches wider it would cover more and leave less chance for side boob. But hey, maybe you like your side boob. I happen to not. To each her own 😉
Suit #3: Ebuddy 50s Elegant Inspired Retro Vintage One Piece
PRICE: $23.99
PROS: This was my first time wearing a retro-inspired bathing suit. They are so FUN! Something about the cut and the ruching and even the pattern just makes you feel sexy, curvy, va-va-voom! Can’t you tell by my wannabe model pose? I didn’t plan that. This suit just brought it out of me, meow! And what’s funny is by far this suit had the most coverage and the thickest lining. Again, the colors on this one were on point. Super bright and cheery. There are 7 different patterns to choose from and 3 solids (black, blue and red). This is also a great suit for anyone who may want to minimize their midsection.
CONS: I really didn’t see any cons to this suit. Probably the only thing that could be an issue with this one is that it is a very specific style and cut. If you don’t love the retro vibe, then you won’t love this suit.
Suit #4: Oops Style Womens Tropical Tribal Starbasket Knot Front
PRICE: $17.58 (really random price, right?)
PROS: I really, really love this suit. I think it’s my favorite of the bunch. I was really impressed with the thick fabric and lining. The cutouts show just the right amount of skin. And the back it interesting and sexy, too. But make sure you order a size up on this one, every review I read said it ran small. I followed the others’ advice and order one size larger than I normally would and I’m glad I listened. It fits like a glove.
CONS: So maybe I’m just out of the loop, but apparently this is a dead ringer for the designer swimsuit by Mara Hoffman, which costs $149.99. Maybe the seller’s name for this suit should have given that away? “Oops Style”… yep, oops indeed. Butttttttt, I’m keeping it anyway! Sorry, not sorry.
Suit #5: GoLoveY Womens Fashion One Piece Swimsuit
PRICE: $16.99
PROS: This one probably had the most unique pattern. Combine that with the bright oranges and pinks, the low V-cut in front and the barely-there back, and you’ve got the bathing suit equivalent to that cute sparkly dress you’d wear downtown with the girls. It’s an attention getter ladies! More so than you would assume from the product photos on Amazon. I’d wear this one to a beach party or on a booze cruise. Are booze cruises still a thing? Man, I need to get out more LOL.
CONS: See above. The same things that make this suit great could make it a dud. It’s all about wearing it for the right occasion. It’s thin fabric and there’s a whole lot of ties and criss-crossing going on with the tiny little spaghetti straps. Toddlers (and husbands) would just looooove to pull at this one! And it’s definitely not an active suit like #2. Wearing this to the water park with the family is probably not the best idea.
So there you have it! It took a good amount of time to research and choose which suits I wanted, but in the end, I am so happy I did my shopping online. One return out of 6 suits ain’t bad in my book. In total, I ended up with 5 stylish one piece swimsuits for a grand total of $92.90 + Tax. Which of these gets your YAY or NAY? Do you like wearing one piece swimsuits? What’s your favorite suit style? Did anyone even read this far? Let me know your thoughts and Happy Summer!
