Summer is the perfect season for getting creative with all of those delicious, seasonal, fresh fruits and veggies.
Salads are great and fruit bowls are fine… but I want to have some fun here and share a super unique and tasty way to serve them up… using a spiralizer and making zoodles!
In this blog, I’m going to show you how to make this bowl of delicious garlic zucchini noodles with red sauce and fresh mozzarella. And this is the tool you’ll need, I made them with this Farberware Spiraletti. It’s a fruit and vegetable slicer that makes it quick and easy to turn vegetables and fruits into spirals and ribbons with minimal effort.
It’s such a convenient tool too, I’ve been experimenting with it this past week and I am totally inspired now to add more fruits and veggies to my daily meals. Obviously, the “zoodles” are easy to make, which I’ll show you guys in just a moment. But you can also try it with sweet potatoes, beets, yellow and green squash, apples, carrots, onions, yellow potatoes, and more. They all come out beautiful in the Spiraletti.
You can use this fun kitchen tool to create vegetable spaghetti, salads, soups, hash browns, stir fry, curly fries, coleslaw, it’s like a whole new world of recipes using this fun and healthy tool! And it’s under $30 online.
Okay, so let’s talk about this fantastic dish, it’s so simple to make. You will need:
- Olive Oil
- Garlic
- Onions
- Zucchini
- Red sauce, store bought or homemade, up to you
- Shredded Cheese for topping
- And of course, you’ll need the Farberware Spiraletti to make your zucchini noodles.
It comes with three stainless steel blades, each clearly labeled, color-coded, and surrounded by a protective frame. There is a thick spiral blade perfect for thick veggie pasta, homemade coleslaw, and salads, a ribbon cut blade perfect for making long ribbon strands for onion rings and apple slices, etc, and a thin spiral blade perfect for thin veggie pasta, garnishes, and hash browns. They all go in this built-in storage area to secure and protect the blades when they are not in use.
Okay, back to the recipe. First, you just choose your blade. We’re going to use the thick blade for this recipe. Then, I love this feature, secure the Spiraletti in place with these suction cup feet. They stick firmly to smooth countertops to help you keep it stable while slicing.
Now we’re all set! Cut off the ends of your zucchini and attach it onto the Spiraletti, and give it a spin! There’s also a special grip connected to the hand crank to ensure that fruits and vegetables stay in place while cutting. So this is safe and easy to use.
So now I have my beautiful “zoodles” or zucchini noodles.
Now let’s heat up about a teaspoon of olive oil in your pan and saute about one clove of garlic and maybe a quarter cup of onion for just about a minute or so, add in your zucchini noodles and a pinch of salt and pepper. You’ll want to let this cook until you get the consistency you want. I like my zucchini noodles nice and soft so I usually let them cook for about 3 to 4 minutes. But you can test them as you go!
When they’re done, add them to your bowl and top with your red sauce and some shredded mozzarella cheese. You could even add meatballs or chicken if you’d like. Either way, it’s a quick and easy dish packed with flavor and fresh veggies!
Now, it’s time to dig in. Bon appetit!!
