Keeping your skin flawless all summer long can be a challenge, but, not to worry. Here are my favorite things to add to your summer skincare list!
We all know that living in Florida, the summer can be harsh, not only on our little ones but on our skin too. Summer is a fun time to have lots of swimming, beach days and maybe get a little tan. But, your skin is sensitive and you need to keep it looking great. Here are my little tips and tricks to keeping my skin flawless all summer long.
Slather on the Sunscreen
It’s so important to keep your sunscreen on all day long; even when you’re driving. Did you know that according to Cancer.org, skin cancer is the most prevalent cancer affecting around 3.3 million Americans each year. This statistic is scary but very real. Make sure you’re choosing a sunscreen with an SPF of 30+ and make sure it says ‘Broad Spectrum’ on it to protect from the UVA and UVB rays.
Use Hats, Umbrellas, and Scarves
These may seem like a little overkill, especially at the beach, but the sun is its harshest during the hours of 10AM and 4PM, which are prime beach and pool times. Make sure you and your little ones have an umbrella to come under when they’re reapplying sunscreen and having them wear hats also protects from the sun in addition to having the sunscreen on.
Use a Moisturizer with an SPF
Listen, I’m just like the rest of you, I need all the time possible to get myself ready in the morning and if I can combine a step instead of skipping it, I’m all in! This is where my moisturizer with an SPF comes into play. It’s creamy which helps the sun not dry out my skin and it has an SPF in it. Double trouble? Yes, count me in! Keep your skin flawless all summer long with a little help from an SPF.
Add a Little Bronzer
There’s nothing better than rocking a gorgeous, bronzed, summer glow. A well-nourished, bronzed complexion gives you that just-back-from-the-islands glow. And here’s my secret, get that glowing, radiant complexion without sun damage by using bronzers. Keep your skin flawless all summer long by using a bronzer to mimic a tan, no one will ever know!
You can mimic the look by looking for bronzers with ultra-moisturizing formulas – I’m loving this Butter Bronzer from Physicians Formula. It’s infused with Murumuru Butter – an ultra-rich formula that just melts into your skin – so this will smooth and brighten while delivering instant and lasting hydration plus that natural, bronzed color.
My Summer Beauty Secret: Argan Oil
The next beauty booster to keep your skin flawless all summer long is Argan Oil. I am such a huge fan of Argan Oil- it’s known for being beneficial for your hair, but it’s also amazing for skin. So here’s another bronzing option from Physician’s Formula that harnesses the beauty benefits of argan oil. This is the Argan Wear “Ultra-Nourishing Argan Oil Bronzer.” It’s infused with 100% Pure Argan Oil, so you still get that gorgeous sun-kissed color while improving your skin’s brightness, tone, texture, and elasticity.
Stay Hydrated
If you haven’t heard it a million times, you must be living under a rock! As women and moms, we’re always hearing, “make sure you drink enough water!” But how do we do that with such busy schedules? Here is my answer and new secret- add a juicy twist to your water! What do I mean by this? Simple. Add the summer’s best fruits into your water. There are special water bottles that allow you to infuse fruit right into your water so it’s still separate, but the water tastes great. Another great option I love getting in the summer is bubble water such as Perrier or La Croix. When the water is cold it feels so much more refreshing than normal flat water.
Add Juicy Melons
Cantaloupe is the summer melon of choice, other than watermelon. Its bright color and taste will make your summer jump to life. Not only do cantaloupe taste delicious, they’re also good for your skin! “They contain antioxidants and they help your skin stay hydrated,” according to Dr. Nicholas Perricone from InStyle Magazine. Try blending and freezing some honeydew and enjoy a refreshing and nutrient packed ice cream!
Use a Scrub
Sometimes I just need to go to the aesthetician and when I do, they always recommend you do a facial scrub at least twice per week. So I decided to dedicate a day in order to do this. There are a couple that I’ve found and like; one can be found in Publix and it smells like a tropical vacation. I’ve also tried body scrubs. I love using these as a mini getaway from the daily life. A scrub will help keep your skin flawless all summer long. A simple recipe for a DIY sugar scrub is super simple and you can even get the kids involved! Here it is:
Ingredients
- 1 cup organic cane sugar
- 1/4 cup
- 2 Tablespoons raw honey
- 2 tsp dried rosemary
- 15 drops lemon essential oil
- 15 drops lavender essential oil
Directions
Mix sugar, dried rosemary, olive oil, and raw honey together. Add essential oils and stir to combine.
Get Rid of Your Heavy Concealer
Summer is the time to get rid of the things that weigh you down, because we all know that with the Florida heat, we need all the help we can get! I switch up my concealers for a lighter formula and then top it off with a little powder if I need extra coverage. The warm temperatures and humidity levels are rising, but with a lighter coverage concealer will help keep your skin flawless all summer long.
Amp Up the Antioxidants
There are a ton of brands out there that have skincare, but I’ve recently found one that is local to Florida coast. It’s called Absolutely Natural and they offer great skin care free of harsh chemicals. If you’re health-conscious, like I am, this is a great company to check out. They also have an anti-aging line that I like with their Vitamin C Serum for the eyes. Give your eyes a little bit of hydration after those long hours out in the sun to keep your skin flawless all summer long.
Soothe Your Skin after a Burn
Sunburns happen and we’ve all been there. You think you put enough sunscreen on, and then you hop in the shower and BOOM, you’re a lobster. Make sure you have something that you can add easily to your beach bag to help with the after effects of the sun. I love getting aloe and putting it in the fridge. This is a little-known secret, but it feels even cooler and better on sunburnt skin. Giving your skin a refreshing blast of hydration will help keep your skin flawless all summer long.
The summertime is the perfect time to have some fun with the family and that is exactly what I plan on doing. I hope these tips will help you live your ultimate summer in glowing skin!
