This time of year we’re welcoming plenty of guests into our homes – holidays right?! It seems to start right around Halloween and goes on through the end of the year. First impressions with guests are important and nasty odors should NOT be part of that. So let’s look at some ways to tackle your most common problem smells around the house.
Watch the video version of this post as I take you through my house to find stinky problems!
The kitchen is the heart of the home – this is where everyone tends to gather and hang out. If you’ve been prepping food for your get togethers, then you know the sink and garbage can get a little funky.
Toss a handful of ice cubes into the garbage disposal.
Turn on the water, and let it to run for a minute or two. This can help to “de-gunk” and remove food particles stuck to the blades.
Also, I keep some toothpaste by the sink for my hands. The same ingredients that deodorize your mouth will work on your hands. I had been cutting onions and garlic. Don’t want to shake hands with people smelling like food!
Here’s another secret weapon of mine – Zero Odor. You can use this around your house wherever odors are created – to wipe them out for good. It’s not covering them up – it’s actually bonding to the odor molecules and changing them into non-odor ones… it’s a breakthrough technology. Pretty amazing, right?!
In the kitchen it’s perfect for spraying the garbage can. Just a few spritzes and I’m set. It works super fast, and leaves nothing behind but clean, crisp air — and smiling house guests.
You can use Zero Odor in the air and on surfaces. Like my curtains – they tend to hang on to cooking odors and sometimes pet smells. We have a shoe closet, but I also share it with two boys and a husband – it stinks! And where there’s babies, there are diaper pails! Any odor that Zero Odor touches is gone forever and will never return – leaving no scent behind.
Another spot this comes in handy is the laundry room! This is a double whammy of smells for me with the dirty hamper and our litter box. Your guests shouldn’t know you have a cat because they can smell the litter box! So you can spray in and around the box. The formula is non toxic – pet and people safe – so no worries there.
And for the laundry area, a few quick tips.
In the hamper – keep it dry. Don’t let wet towels or clothes linger for too long or you could end up with that musty mildew smell, yuck! And on laundry day- add some Zero Odor Laundry to the load along with your regular detergent. This will get rid of smells on your items and it’s great for freshening up the actual washer itself.
So that’s it, guys! Some simple ways to keep your home clean and fresh for guests.
